For those of us that live in this beautiful state of Colorado, it's hard to imagine why we would want to travel to Alaska and see more mountains and trees. All we have to do is drive a few hours and we can see all the mountains and trees we want. However, when you take an Alaska cruise, you can sit on your balcony, on the deck, or in the hot tub and watch magnificent mountains that come right up out of the ocean sail by. It's extremely peaceful and relaxing. And, of course, you have the wonderful food, the great entertainment and the pampering service that only a cruise line can provide.
It is exhilarating to get your binoculars out and see an eagle sitting on a chunk of glacier or stand in awe at a pod of whales coming up for air. Some of the cities are only accessible by float plane and it's quite interesting to see these things take off and land. The glaciers are amazing, these big chunks of ice that have no end and come right down to the ocean. Some of the glaciers have colors which they call “windex blue”. It is just the reflection of the light that comes through, but it is quite a spectacular sight. If you are really lucky you will be able to see parts of the glaciers break off and fall into the ocean. The sheer beauty of the entire area rejuvenates your soul.
